FOOTBALL Game Summaries

WEEK TEN - FIRST ROUND, IHSA CLASS 1A PLAYOFFS
OCTOBER 30, 1999: WARREN
at Freeport Aquin.
The Warriors met a very tough foe in the Freeport
Aquin Bulldogs on Saturday. Things started well for the Warriors as Brett Smith
intercepted a wind-blown pass and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown on Aquin's opening
drive. Aquin came back to take the lead after they intercepted a pass of their own.
Warren once again intercepted Aquin in the end zone to thwart another Bulldog drive
but that would be the last highlight till late in the game as Aquin took over the game
late in the second and the third quarters. Warren finished the season at 6-4 but had
an outstanding year as the junior dominated squad accomplished what some thought
impossible, a 14th consecutive playoff appearance. Aquin advances to play Arcola in
the second round.

WEEK NINE
OCTOBER 22, 1999 - VARSITY FB: Wethersfield 22, WARREN 14 - OVERTIME.
Wethersfield needed this victory to clinch a
playoff berth and they showed it in the first half. Warren could manage only two
first half first downs as the Flying Geese scored twice to take a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Warriors proved once again that even though they are young, they can play with
the best as they came out and scored twice in the third quarter to tie the game. The
game stayed scoreless until overtime when Wethersfield scored first then stopped Adam
Robinsons fourth down run at the one to seal the win. Despite the loss, the Warriors
received their 14th consecutive IHSA 1A playoff berth!

For the second year in a row, the Cambridge
Vikings registered a safety against the Warriors but that was the lone highlight for

have all but guaranteed the Warriors will make their 14th consecutive playoff appearance!

WEEK SEVEN
OCTOBER 8, 1999 - VARSITY FB: Alexis 21, WARREN 14.
If not for Eric Humes, the end result might have
been different. Humes came up big for the Alexis Cardinals on Friday as he returned
a punt for the only score of the first half. He then answered Warren's rally with
another return, this one a kickoff return for his third touchdown of the night as the
Cardinals captured the Lincoln Trail Conference West Division championship with a 21-14
homecoming victory. Trailing 13-0 in the third, Warren never gave up. In fact,
they moved the ball consistently against Alexis in the third period and with just 2
minutes remaining in the quarter, the Warriors had rallied to a 14-13 lead on the
shoulders of Adam Robinson's passing. It was short-lived, however, as Humes returned
the ensuing kick-off for the go-ahead score. The Warriors managed to get to the
Cardinal 25 yard line late in the game but was stopped on downs and Alexis ran out the
clock. The Warriors are still in need of one more victory to gain a playoff berth.
They will look toward this Friday as Cambridge comes to town for Senior Night.
