2000 Varsity Football - Game SummariesGame 10. IHSA Playoffs - Round One. Girard 10, Warren 6. The Warriors lost to an absolutely huge Girard Big Red squad on Saturday afternoon in Girard. After the nearly 3-hour trip, the Warriors offense could not get on track against their defensive line. Girard scored on their first drive thanks to a 30-yard field goal. Their only touchdown of the game came in the second period on a run by Ricky Hogan. But the Warriors were not close to quitting despite their 10-0 defecit at halftime. In typical Warrior Pride fasion, Warren came out scrapping in the second half and began wearing down the Big Red. A great pass to Chad Robertson and a nice run afterwards set up the Warriors at the four yard line where Adam Robinson ran in from on the next play. The Warrior defense continued to stuff the Girard offenense, holding them to only 3 first downs in the second half. Warren began their final drive with only 4 minutes to play and got down to the Big Red 32 yard line before time became an issue. Knowing Warren had to pass, the Big Red were able to stop the Warriors on downs with just under a minute to play and the battle came to an end. The Warriors proved once again that even though we may be small, the Heart of a Warrior is mighty. Congratulations to the 2000 Warren Warriors. Another LTC West conference championship, a fifteenth consecutive playoff berth, and nine all-conference positions!
Game 9. ROWVA 18, Warren 14. The Warriors lost a heart-breaking 18-14 decision to LTC East foe ROWVA on the last night of regular season play. The Warriors defense dominated most of the game and the offense looked good as well as the Warriors took a 14-6 lead into the fourth period. Warren scored on Adam Robinson's 7 yard keeper and then later on a nice pass to Chad Robertson. However, a long run by quarterback Brad Boyer cut the lead to 14-12 and, after an interception by the Tigers, they proceeded to slowly drive downfield, scoring with only 6 seconds remaining to take the lead. A pitch to Steven Koch on the ensuing kickoff almost worked as Koch broke around the left sideline but was knocked out of bounds by ROWVA to end the game. The Warriors and Tigers both advance to the IHSA playoffs next week. Both will be on the road by virtue of their identical 7-2 records.
Game 8. Warren 42, Galva 6. The Warriors continued to dominate with both the run and the pass as they never trailed in this Lincoln Trail cross-division match-up. Warren made the Homecoming/Senior Night crowd happy with 34 first half points en route to the victory. The Warrior defense continued to play well also holding Galva to 64 total yards on the night. Warren will now face fellow playoff team ROWVA for a playoff warmup next Friday night in Onieda. The Tigers are 6-2 while Warren now holds a 7-1 record.
Game 7. Warren 34, AlWood 0. The Warriors piled up 490 total yards on Saturday afternoon to spoil AlWood's Homecoming / Senior Day festivities. Adam Woerly scored three times to pace the Warriors to their fourth shutout of the year, their third in four games, and Warren completed their undefeated swing through the Lincoln Trail Conference West division and captured their second conference championship in three years. Chad Robertson contributed two interceptions and a fumble recovery as the defense held AlWood to 145 total yards on the afternoon. The Warriors (5-0, 6-1) will now host Galva this Friday for Homecoming / Senior Night.
Game 6. Warren 28, Annawan 0. Adam Robinson completed 4 passes on the night, and all 4 were for touchdowns. Two apiece for Steve Koch and Chad Robertson led the Warriors to the shutout victory. Annawan did a decent job stopping Warren's run but did not have an answer for Adam Robinson's passing attack. With the victory, Warren assured themselves at least a tie for the LTC West Division championship and secured their 15th consecutive IHSA Class 1A Playoff Berth! They will travel to Woodhull to take on the AlWood Aces next Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm (notice the time change).
Game 5. Warren 49, Union 28. In a wild night of thunder and lightning, the Warren Warriors never trailed. Two minutes into the second quarter with Warren leading 28-0, the game was postponed until Saturday afternoon because of the impending storms. When the game resumed, the Warriors continued to dominate and took a 49-0 lead into halftime. Union scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to set the final score. Jay Boone led the Warriors in rushing with 120 yards and Adam Woerly had 117. Adam Robinson was 4 for 5 in passing for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Warren remained unbeaten in conference play.
Game 4. Warren 21, Westmer 0. Even though the Warren offense struggled, the defense remained consistent as they contributed highly to tonight's victory. Two fumble recoveries set up the Warren offense with good field position leading to scores. The third score came on an interception return for a touchdown as Warren remained unbeaten in conference play.
Game 3. Warren 40, Alexis 14. The Warriors opened conference play with a resounding victory over rival Alexis. The Cardinals came in as defending LTC West champions. The Warriors came in off their first home loss in three years. The Warriors would not be denied this evening as Adam Robinson went to the air for the first first three touchdowns, finding Steven Koch on all three. Robinson was 6 for 7 in passing for 145 yards on the evening. Austin McGill led Warren in rushing with 65 yards on 16 carries.
Game 2. Stark County 13, Warren 8 This week 2 matchup turned out to be everything it was billed as. The Warrior defense held the Rebels in check until late in the third when they completed a pass over the middle that they broke for a 51 yard touchdown. The Warriors responded, however, as Adam Robinson capped a 70 yard drive by scoring on an 8 yard scramble on 4th and goal. Adam Woerly's conversion run gave the Warriors the lead with 5:59 left. Stark County answered right back and scored on a 4th and goal from the 1 to claim the non-conference win.
Game 1. Warren 29, Princeville 0 The Warriors started the season with a great defensive effort by shutting out Princeville. Despite three fumbles, the Warriors were able to move the ball most of the night. Austin McGill picked up three Princeville fumbles as well as intercepted one pass for the Warrior defense.
